E esce un diluvio universale, con la grandine e una cortina d’acqua e ci dobbiamo fermare e per 5 minuti siamo io e te in mezzo al nulla. Esce il sole, andiamo a votare e per una volta vinciamo. Was watching MSNBC early morning yesterday – an interesting round table where the head of Morgan Stanley in Asia (not really an extremist!!!) was assessing the obvious – that the shift of wealth from labor to capital is THE problem of the current times in the developed word. The subprime crisis is over since 4 years – what we have now is a very different problem.
What was completely absurd was that one of the panelist – did not catch the name – was still adamantly defending the concept of maket self regulation.
For how many years will we have to listen to that before the myth is dismantled. Or, in other words, how strong the corporate power is?
I just stumbled in those two articles – found interesting to connect them.
One one side, Bezos, in a typical Amazon no-hostages-taken style http://allthingsd.com/20131202/afraid-amazon-will-crush-your-small-business-complaining-is-not-a-strategy-says-ceo-jeff-bezos/?mod=atd_daily_email_list saying that “complaining is not a strategy”. True. Reacting is the strategy.
This is the interesting part of the interview. Makes you really feel like opening a small neighbourhood bookstore tomorrow.
Charlie Rose: A lot of small book publishers and other smaller companies worry that the power of Amazon gives them no chance.
Jeff Bezos: You got to earn your keep in this world. When you invent something new, if customers come to the party, it’s disruptive to the old way.
Rose: Yeah, but I mean, there are areas where your power’s so great, and your margin — you’re prepared to make it so thin — that you can drive people out of business. And you have that kind of strength, and people worry: Is Amazon ruthless in their pursuit of market share?
Bezos: The Internet is disrupting every media industry, Charlie. You know, people can complain about that, but complaining is not a strategy. Amazon is not happening to book selling; the future is happening to book selling.

But it is hard, and requires focus and possibly more and more consumer awareness about how large companies use and treat consumers.

Fast forward – 35 anni. Alison, mentre ho il cuore spezzato per altri demeriti a lei del tutto estranei, mi dice con gentilezza che lei in un uomo cerca altro. Altro cosa? Che modo crudele di tentare di uccidere un sentimento che è forse ormai omeopatico ma che è dolce e soprattutto innocente.
Io, in un sussulto di autostima, mi sento molto ma molto più giovane di lei. E pronto a cambiare molte cose. A questo punto non con lei, e mi dispiace. Sarebbe stato bello invecchiare insieme.
Inizia in una assemblea di classe. Io sono il “grande” che viene a dare la linea a voi di prima. Continua al parco, d’inverno, sulle panchine nella nebbia. E sul mio Ciao, quando tu mi infili le mani nelle tasche del giaccone. E si congela in una foto al bordo di un campetto di calcio, dove i tuoi occhi ridono e tu hai per sempre quindici anni. Quelli si, gli amori dei quindicenni quando hanno davvero quindici anni, quelli sono veri. Poi, velocemente, muore. ma non per me.
E Saba mi fa capire cosa non ho avuto.
Io non so più dolce cosa dell’amore in giovinezza, di due amanti in lieta ebbrezza, di cui l’un nell’altro muore.
Io non so più gran dolore ch’esser privo di quel bene, e non porto altre catene di due braccia ignude e bianche,
che se giù cadono stanche è per poco, è a breva pace. Poi la sua bocca che tace, tutto in lei mi dice: ancora.

One – start fixing inequalities.
Two – get high school and university reformed, anglosaxon style.
Three – make it a country where elder people can live well. They are now a huge portion of our society
Four – Fight gender discrimination. Insist with quota at all levels. Put significant awards for companies playing positive model on maternity. Force fathers to take paternity leaves. Pour more money to help a balanced public/private kindergarten system to accomodate the demand. There are so many other “easy” things could be done…
Five – find the money for that. Yes, cut public spending wastes. BUT also – take money from the do-have. Dont be shy to talk a serious patrimomial tax. Be implacable against tax frauds. If it is deliberate and material, throw the keys away.
Talk to me from one to five and you will have my time and my vote. I’ll be your man.

Trova una risposta alla domanda: quale è il tuo posto nel mondo. E’ (anche) questo che mi fa mancare il respiro. Lo sapevo, fino ad ieri. Sapevo dove tornare, ogni volta. Ora quel posto (fisico, mentale, affettivo….) non c’è più – anzi c’è ancora ma ora è una trappola infernale che ti attira e ti avvelena. L’esercizio consiste nel trovarne un altro, con tutti i suoi perché.

Tra tutti i sentimenti e le sensazioni che provi, l’assenza è forse quello più forte e che ti atterrisce di più. E’ la visualizzazione dell’asimmetria che si è creata. Lei non c’è.
Più.
Anche nelle fasi di mezzo di questi tempi, quando assenza e presenza coesistono, la presenza ti da una serie di sensazioni diverse, non c’è un’unica nota. L’assenza porta solo il vuoto la mancanza la ricerca di toccare qualcosa, anche se sai che è un fantasma.
Questa probabilmente non è stata pensata come una canzone sull’assenza, ma per me lo è più di ogni altra

Theater in Milan yesterday – an Italian comedian (and many other things), Enrico Bertolino.
The show http://www.enricobertolino.com/casta-away/ was very good, go watch it if you can. It was fun but sobering – mostly around politics and ethics. Lot of material in Italy to make fun of the way we are treating those matters….
But close to the end, Enrico said something around “to change things, everyone of us should focus on doing whatever it is our task to do – in the best way we are capable to!”. The theater exploded in an ovation. I was underwhelmed.
The situation is so bad that doing our job well will not take us out of it. We need to do much more. We need to get beyond of our own job and start caring about the collective matters. We need to find a new way to make politics, from the ground up – with no hidden ideology or mystical gurus. If we do not do so in a massive way, others will, using the instability and social unrest deriving from the economic crisis downstream effects as a fertile terrain; what happened in Genova few days ago around the bus strike could become the first example of a long string.
I spoke to Enrico after the show; he told me that the sense of what he said was that we should not all try to do somebody else’s job, but he agreed wholeheartedly that to get a real change we need many of us to step beyond our small interests. And this is one of the things I need and want to do using this personal crisis as a pivot.
E così arrivi all’aiuto. E l’aiuto è una bella signora di 65 anni che ti dice: “sei un ipersano che ha sbattuto contro un tram”. E non essendo un’amica o un amico tu puoi anche permetterti di crederle senza temere di ingannarti (ovviamente il fatto che in quel momento lei sia pagata da te non conta).

Ma poi la signora ti da anche una microscopica pillola al giorno, dicendoti che è per guarire le ferite da tram. E queste pillola ti manda su e giù – sensazioni nuove e non piacevoli. E alla fine un attacco di panico, appena sceso dalla macchina. Respira forte con la bocca, siediti, aspetta che tutto smetta di girare. Un passo avanti e dieci indietro.
